<![CDATA[TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES]]>Mon, 23 Sep 2024 17:11:11 GMThttp://neneuropsych.com/blog1/training-opportunitiesNortheast Neuropsychology and Advanced Telepsychiatry are committed to providing high quality training for practicum students in graduate-level psychology programs. We currently offer one-year placements for students interested in gaining experience with all aspects of neuropsychological assessment, including clinical interviewing, standardized test administration, test scoring, and report-writing. All supervision is provided by licensed clinical neuropsychologists, and is done on an individual and group-level. Opportunities are available to work with adults only, or with patients across the entire lifespan.
Practicum placements are year-long, formal experiences arranged through the students’ graduate programs. We have offices in Cheshire, CT and in Farmington, CT, and students may be expected to travel to either office depending on their supervisor and testing schedule. All patient interactions require practicum students to be on-site, as we do not conduct testing via telehealth. Practicum students accepted into our training program typically start their placements in the beginning of the fall semester. However, some students have been able to start in the spring or early summer before the fall semester depending on supervisor availability and students’ training needs.
Interested individuals are encouraged to review our FAQ section prior to submitting their applications. Applications are accepted starting on December 1st of each year, and the application period closes on December 31st, in order to allow time for interviews.
Questions about our program can be emailed to Dr. Wrocklage at drwrocklage@neneuropsych.com

FAQs:
Q: How can I apply for your practicum?
A: To apply, please complete the practicum applicant information sheet, which can be found here:
2025-2026_practicum_application_information_sheet.pdf

Please send the applicant information sheet, your CV, and a cover letter to drwrocklage@neuneuropsych.com

Q: Can I work with adults or children only?
A: Practicum students have the option of choosing to work with a supervisor who only sees adult patients, or with a supervisor who sees both adults and children. Those who specify that they would like to work with children will be assigned to work with one of our developmental neuropsychologists, to ensure that they have the opportunity to work with kids as well as adults. We do not have a pediatric-only practicum at the present time.
Q: What kind of patients will I be working with?
A: We receive referrals from a variety of sources, including primary care physicians, neurologists, psychiatrists, and nurse practitioners. Our patient population includes dementia, mild neurocognitive disorders, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, attention hyperactivity deficit disorder, and psychiatric conditions.
Q: I need testing hours for my APPIC application before I can apply for internships. Will I be able to obtain those hours at Northeast Neuropsychology?
A: Absolutely. A majority of your practicum hours will involve direct, face-to-face testing with patients once you are fully trained on test administration. You will also gain valuable report-writing experience to include on your APPIC application.
Q: Do I have to be interested in becoming a neuropsychologist in order to apply for your practicum?
A: No. We accept students who aspire to become neuropsychologists, as well as students who are interested in primarily doing therapy, but who want to gain experience with neuropsychological assessment prior to applying for internships. We train both groups of students similarly, as we believe that everyone can benefit from the skills acquired during a practicum focused on testing.
Q: Do I need any testing experience in order to apply for your practicum?
A: No. While prior testing experience can be helpful, we believe that the purpose of practicum training is to provide trainees with the experience that will allow them to be successful in our training program and beyond. Our supervisors meet students where they are at, and gradually increase their responsibilities and learning opportunities as training progresses.
Q: Do you offer practicum placements that only involve therapy and not neuropsychological testing?
A: From time to time, we have licensed therapists who are interested in training practicum students. Please email the training director at drwrocklage@neneuropsych.com prior to applying, in order to see if this is an option available for the upcoming training year.
Q: Can I talk to current or former students to get their perspective on your training program?
A: Yes. We encourage interested applicants to talk to students who have trained in our program. Contact information for students who agreed to talk to prospective students will be provided to applicants upon request.
Q: I am not currently eligible or able to complete a practicum at your site, but I want to learn more about what neuropsychologists do. Do you offer opportunities to shadow your neuropsychologists?
A: On occasion, we have opportunities for individuals who may be interested in learning more about neuropsychological assessment to shadow our clinical providers. Our capacity to fulfill these types of requests varies depending on our providers’ schedules and current training demands. Please email the training director at drwrocklage@neneuropsych.com to inquire about this opportunity.
Q: Do you offer paid training experiences?
A: No. Our practicum students complete their practicum with us for credit in their graduate programs. However, in some cases, we may invite former practicum students to apply to become testing technicians following completion of their practicum training.
Q: Do you offer internship or post-doctoral training opportunities?
A: At this time, we do not offer additional training at the internship or post-doctoral level.]]>
